In 1965 the Council for British Archaeology published a list of 324 historic towns of which 51 were considered to be of special importance – “so splendid and so precious that ultimate responsibility for them should be a national concern”. This led to the then West Suffolk County Planning Authority to designate the first Hadleigh Conservation Area in 1969. The boundaries of the Hadleigh Conservation Area were revised in 1981 and 1998 by the Babergh District Council.

We monitor planning applications and are often consulted by Babergh District Council. Below we list those applications on which we commented. The essence of our Comment is shown here. You can click in the Planning Application column to take you to the District Council website where you will find the ‘Planning- Application Summary’ page for the application. Now click on Documents on that page and this will open up all the documents related to the application including our Society’s comments.

In some cases there are further details to be found by clicking the + button on the left.

Clicking Property Details will lead to a new page with any information we hold about that property.

In turn, you can click the left hand button of that Asset Details record to see more pictures, other references and, in particular, Related Events. These may be in our historical timeline or our Noel Turner awards.
